Sir David Lean, CBE (25 mars 1908 - 16 avril 1991) était un réalisateur, producteur, scénariste et monteur anglais, dont on se souvient surtout pour ses épopées au grand écran telles que The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957), Lawrence of Arabia (1962) et Doctor Zhivago (1965) ; pour ses adaptations peut-être les plus appréciées des romans de Dickens avec Great Expectations (1946) et Oliver Twist (1948) ; et pour le célèbre drame romantique Brief Encounter (1945).Acclamé par des réalisateurs tels que Steven Spielberg et Stanley Kubrick, Lean a été élu 9ème meilleur réalisateur de tous les temps au British Film Institute Sight
