Il est surtout connu pour ses rôles de Stuart Alan Jones dans la série Queer as Folk sur Channel 4, de John Boy dans le drame policier Love/Hate, de Petyr Littlefinger Baelish dans la série Game of Thrones sur HBO et de Tommy Carcetti dans le drame The Wire sur HBO.
